Introduction to video is designed for those who want to learn the principles of video cinematography and want to be introduced to the basic knowledge of video technology. Know what video cameras do, which buttons are important and which to ignore. Stop being a spectator and start using the video camera in order to produce your own videos

Objective of the course
Theoretical knowledge of video technicals, exposure, focus, white balance and audio recording. Understanding the different video formats (i.e. Standard Definition, High Definition, codecs and their relation to computer importing and editing. Shooting basics (different kinds of shots), holding the camera and means of camera support. Basic lighting techniques
Course content
The course focuses on understanding the basics about video shooting
- Different formats for amateurs and their relationship to the computer
- How to choose the right camera
- Apertures, shutter speeds and camera sensitivity, gain and neutral density filters
- Composition and different kind of shots
- White balance in different lighting situations
- Focus and depth of the field
- Blocking, “z” axis and use of the horizon
- Use of different focal length lenses
- Continuity on video and audio
- Basic video lighting techniques in natural and artificial light
- Use of means of support (handheld, tripod, monopod)\
- Editing (only a small introduction)
Instructor
Pavlos Symeon is a documentary photographer and cinematographer. He has worked as a photojournalist in the United States and Greece for over twenty years and his work has been published and exhibited in major magazines and newspapers in the States and his native country Greece. Since 1996 is working as a Laboratory associate at Technical Educational Institute (TEI Athens). Four years ago he decided to embark on a new venue, the one of wedding videography. His background as a still photographer has allowed him to approach wedding cinematography from a different perspective. He lives and works in Athens. He begun his studies in economics at the University of Piraeus and at the same time he was attending at Stavrakos School of Cinema where he earned a diploma in cinematography and editing. He obtained a BFA in photography from the Academy of Art University San Francisco, California), and then he received his MA in photojournalism and gerontology from San Francisco State University, California
