Objective of the course
Get exposed to the basics of Intellectual Property Law in Greece.
Course content
One of the main problems facing photographers in Greece, is the constant infringement of copyright, which occurs either by the imposition of unfavorable terms by the contracting partner (advertising, publishing, media companies etc.) or from reproduction and republication of photographs without permission, especially over the internet. This phenomenon is due largely to ignorance on the part of photographers to the exact extent of their rights and how to enforce them.
The aim of this seminar is to inform photographers about the basic principles of IP rights, such as:
a) what photographs are protected
b) under what conditions
c) enforcement process
d) duration of protection
e) proprietorship
f) specific rights
g) fees due in case of publication and republication of photos
h) basic Principles on the negotiation of terms of payment
i) significant conditions when contracting usage of photographs
j) rights of photographers – employees in newspapers, magazines or other media and on websites
k) protection against infringement of rights
l) Collective rights management for photographers.
